“The opening of the George Bush Tollway jump started growth for the city, which, though still small in size, is projected to build out in five to eight years from now”. “But now Murphy is a hotbed of residential growth, which has pushed it from a population of 6,500 in late 2002 to about 11,000 now”.

Rating the Suburbs.
D Magazine; July 2004.
“ You may be tempted to lump together all suburbs as one faraway strip mall with hoards of SUV’s and soccer moms. But the best of Dallas burbs have come a long way, baby. Which have the best schools, lowest crime rate, and most affordable housing? We (D Magazine) studied outlying areas to find the best places to live”. ONE MURPHY VILLAGE
Murphy Messenger
Do you hear the sound of trumpets playing?
Well maybe not trumpets…yet. But you can hear and see the bulldozers busy at work behind the Bank One and Wells Fargo Banks off FM 544 in Murphy. That’s because ground has been broken and excavation started for 20,000 square feet of new retail space and 24,000 square feet of new office and medical space.
Dave Carter, with Northpoint Properties who is developing One Murphy Village, explained that the retail space will be completed first and should be opening in about 6 months. One of the retail spaces will be taken by Quiznos but no other retailers can be confirmed at this time.
Mr. Carter said that the City of Murphy and Murphy citizens have expressed their “most desired” new business to be a family-type sit-down restaurant. And that is exactly what Northpoint Properties is focusing on at the moment. According to Mr. Carter there are three major restaurants considering One Murphy Village and their space requirements range between 3,000 and 6,000 square feet.
After the retail space is completed, construction will begin on the Office/Medical condos.
Northpoint Properties is located in Dallas and most recently has completed similar projects in Frisco and McKinney.
From the Desk of Randy Thomas – Murphy Economic Development Corporation
“We’re excited about the addition of One Murphy Village to our community, and look forward to continuing our working relationship to help with them to be successful in Murphy. I feel this development is reflective of the current activity we are seeing in our trade area.
The City Council, Economic Development Corporation and Community Development Corporation have been posturing to create a competitive, yet business friendly environment, which is conducive to bringing new business to Murphy. We want to spread the word that Murphy’s open for quality development, while still maintaining the quality of life so many people moving here desire”.
